Beaune, France (18:31 GMT+1)

First day in the Côte de Nuits. A rainy drive up to Vougeot for delicate, soft red Burgundies. Then Morey-St-Denis, to a chilly cave for 2011s and 2010s; a Charmes-Chambertin steals the show. Back to Beaune for a quick lunch and recharge, then up to Nuits-St-Georges. Final tasting is from barrel and bottle; a series of beautiful wines from monopoles showing chocolate, red cassis, and pepper; an 07 1er Cru Nuits is singing. More CDN tomorrow, including a new spot in Nuits.
